For a new survey on online education at research universities, sixty percent of faculty say they taught distance learning courses before the COVID-19 pandemic. Some 22 percent of business and economics professors in the sample are using WebEx for remote instruction, the survey found, while all arts, theater and music instructors are using Zoom.
Instructors from the universities with the lowest tuition rates were much more likely than the rest of the sample to prioritize course delivery through their institutional leaning management system. Older instructors surveyed and transitioned to distance instruction to people from the arts and humanities most likely citing their libraries as a major source of support.
The primary research group surveyed 73 professors from 48 research institutes in the US and elsewhere. Among other figures, the full, payable report includes detailed comments from professors on their experiences with distance instruction.
