New Delhi: The Supreme Court today approved the CBSE's assessment scheme to give marks to students for the cancelled Class 12 board exams. The board will prepare result for pending subjects on the basis of exams that have already been conducted and internal assessment performance.

Class 10 and Class 12 examinations will not be held for the remaining papers and the board may allow students to sit the exam at a later date if the situation is favorable.

The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by a group of parents seeking to cancel the remaining examinations for Class 12 students in the wake of the coronovirus pandemic, requesting that the results be declared on the basis of internal assessment and assignment Be done which has already been done. "Results will now be declared following an alternate assessment scheme. Class 12 students will get an option to appear for exams later to improve their score. However, for students who chose for sit for exams, their marks in the exams will be treated as the final score," Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said in an official notification. "Class 10 students will not get the chance to appear for improvement exam. Their result declared by the board shall be treated final," he said.

Schools and colleges across the country have been closed and examinations postponed since March, when the government announced a nationwide lockout that has an outbreak of COVID-19.
